CompTIA Announces Disposal, Recycling Service For Members
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has announced a new low-cost technology equipment recycling program for its members.
CompTIA said Thursday that AnythingIT will provide CompTIA members with environmentally friendly trade-in and asset disposal options at any point during a product’s lifecycle.
AnythingIT’s RecycleTomorrow could give resellers and systems integrators opportunities to generate sales because customers will be able to ensure eco-friendly disposal of desktop PCs and laptops, regardless of which company made the equipment, CompTIA said. John Venator, president and CEO of CompTIA, said the program solves two important problems that the association’s 22,000 members face.
“First, it offers a solution for disposing of computers with sensitive, private information,” he said in a prepared statement. “Second, it provides an environmentally sound method for the re-use or recycling of computers.”
AnythingIT takes ownership of equipment, removes all sensitive data, and recycles the equipment. The company said its data removal procedures comply with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), while also meeting security standards required by the U.S. Department of Defense.
“Our RecycleTomorrow solution makes budgeting dollars for the retirement of technology an obsolete practice,” AnythingIT president Dave Bernstein said in a prepared statement. “Through CompTIA and RecycleTomorrow, customers no longer have to dedicate resources to ensure they are in compliance with the nation’s numerous e-waste regulations. With RecycleTomorrow, that can be decided at the point of purchase before hardware even arrives on site. Sold very much like an extended service contract, RecycleTomorrow can be added to any new equipment sale or existing service contract.”
